Standard Plates
Short number plates are narrower than standard plates, designed for vehicles with smaller plate recesses or registrations with fewer characters. If your registration has six or fewer characters, a short plate gives a cleaner, more proportional look. All our short plates are road-legal and BS AU 145e certified.
What Are Short Number Plates?
Standard UK number plates measure 520mm x 111mm. Short plates use the same 111mm height but with a reduced width to better fit shorter registration numbers. This eliminates the excess blank space that appears on a full-width plate when fewer characters are displayed. The result is a neater, more balanced appearance.
Who Can Use Short Plates?
- Personalised registrations – Short private plates look much better on a narrower plate.
- Older registrations – Vintage and classic car registrations often have fewer characters.
- Imported vehicles – Cars with smaller plate mounting areas benefit from short plates.
- Sports cars – Many performance vehicles have narrow plate recesses at the front.
