What Is the Green Flash on EV Number Plates?
Since December 2020, zero-emission vehicles in the UK have been eligible to display a green stripe on the left-hand side of their number plates. This green flash helps identify electric vehicles and may grant access to benefits such as free parking, reduced congestion charges and access to clean air zones in certain local authorities.
Who Can Have a Green Flash?
The green identifier is available for vehicles that produce zero tailpipe emissions – fully electric vehicles (BEVs) and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are not eligible as they still have an internal combustion engine.
